Things got weird in Iowa, as they did around the world. We did what we did when we didn’t know what to do… All those years ago.
We went to ride bikes. This was the first ride that got photographed in 2020. As the world went sideways, it became more and more clarifying to find a bike and ride.
As 2020 took shape, I returned to the cruiser bike to ride until smiling. Happiness was on the back of the bike, right where I left it, four years earlier.
Everything was going out of control, the world was coming down with the BUG. Everyone and everything, pulled in.
I remember feeling powerless. Realizing how much we rely on supply chains for almost everything, I was nervous. I like the fact that we all rely on each other. It vibes with our way thinking. But when that breaks down, what then?
Not being superman or a billionaire, I did what they said we should do. I went inside and played it cool. Until that didn’t seem like enough.
So I went out in the garage and found two department store cruiser bikes. One Huffy Premiere and genesis beach cruiser Both bikes were purchased at a department store.
The big black beach cruiser’s chain would fly off under pressure. This issue previously sponsored a trip the ER. While I wanted to ride ‘my’ bike, I picked the Huffy. It was fine, with the exception of a bent crank. It’s a cool bike. The frame will be a bike for the next 1,000 years. It’s built like it could hold up Kansas.
I started riding it March 20th or so. According to weather history, the high was 40 degrees that day in my part of Iowa.
The world was going bonkers. My girlfriend’s business was closing. We were worried about getting food. It was a lot.
So I snuck out and took the Huffy out for a ride. This ride sparked my desire to go ride bikes again and to bring my camera.
What are you going to do? Go Ride bikes! Get on a cruiser bike and ride! Get a beach cruiser from a bike shop or a department store or from Craigslist. Just find a bike and do what I did. Put one foot in front of the other.
I got happy.
I got happy.
I get more and more happy.
Get a bike. That’s your first lesson. Just like it was mine. Go find a bike. Make it safe and go for a ride.
